Position Summary
The tutor position provides personalized instruction to students on an individual basis to improve their academic performance. The tutor must have weekday availability during hours of 3 pm to 8 pm, Monday to Friday…
The tutor will implement Ally Learnings approach to academic instruction, which places special emphasis on mentorship and advising for the student. Tutors will report to the Operations Manager.
Responsibilities
Academic Support and Mentorship
Identify, develop, or implement intervention strategies and tutoring plans for students.
Review class material with students by discussing the text, practice working solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments.
Help students learn new concepts and improve their understanding of previously learned concepts.
Help students to develop study skills, note-taking skills, organization techniques, and test-taking strategies.
Check completed assignments and homework.
Establish a good rapport with students and parent(s).
Complete tutor logs that communicate students’ progress to students, parents, or teachers via the online TeachWorks system.
Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students.
Maintain records of student’s assessment results, progress, feedback, or school performance, ensuring the confidentiality of all records.
Participate in training and development sessions to improve tutoring practices or learn new tutoring techniques.
Other duties as assigned.
II. Qualifications & Competencies
At least an Associates degree or some college experience
Mastery in primary Grades 6-12 core subjects: Math, Science, Social Studies, ELA, Writing and Reading Comprehension
At least one year’s experience in teaching/instruction
Must have previous experience working with Grades 6-12 students
Must have patience, a positive attitude, and be able to cultivate students interest in their own academic success
Ability to express good judgment in the role of mentor and academic advisor
Ability to connect with others and forge strong relationships
Good time management and organizational skills
III. Essential functions/working conditions
Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds
Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology. Familiarity with Zoom or Google Meet is preferred.
Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
Proficient in using online learning platforms (i.e. Khan Academy)
Must be comfortable delivering instructions and engaging students virtually

Pay: $15.00 per hour
