Exemption Status: United States of America (Exempt) Job Description: Technical direction of four co-curricular mainstage productions and visiting guest artist… theatre company for the ’24-’25 Academic Year and subsequent academic years. Generates detailed build and installation schedules based on the needs of the production, available resources and student worker availability. Responsible for all phases of fabrication and installation of all scenic elements for both productions including, but not limited to, drafting designs, purchasing all necessary supplies, creating and maintaining budget, identifying problems and recommending solutions and maintaining safe working conditions for students, designers and company. Provides technical support for lighting, sound, rigging and projections as applicable. As the Scene Shop Supervisor, oversees and manages one professional assistant, a student crew and work-study shop assistants. Trains, supervises and manages a team of student workers and a part-time employee to implement, construct and install all of the necessary design and technical elements for the scenery, lighting, sound and properties. Develops and engineers construction plans based on designer drafting. Decides on construction methods, materials and equipment that will be needed. Manages scenic, lighting and property studios and maintain tools, equipment and supplies. Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of all equipment in theatre spaces as well as organization of all theatre and storage spaces. ADDITIONAL DUTIES Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies. Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines. Performs other duties as required. EDUCATION Required: Bachelor?s Degree from an accredited institution. Preferred: Dual Master?s Degree of Fine Arts degrees in Lighting Design and Technical Production. EXPERIENCE Required: Three years of experience supervising/managing scenic, lighting and sound studio workers, work flow and budgets. Demonstrated ability to organize and mentor a broad range of students of diverse identities and experience levels, with a focus on professional level work in a safe environment. Experience as a Technical Director. Preferred: Experience in sound design, sound reinforcement, sound equipment and operation, and projections. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Required: Highly organized, professional, and positive, with strong leadership & communication skills. Self-motivated. Strong carpentry and metal working skills. Working computer knowledge (experience with Vectorworks, CAD, and CNC programming preferred). Excellent knowledge of best practices for current construction and rigging techniques. Expert knowledge in current scenic and property construction methods and techniques. Expert knowledge of new materials and scenic techniques including scenery automation. Knowledge of computers and ETC Eos family computerized lighting control consoles and software, as well as other types of lighting control consoles. Knowledge of lighting equipment and techniques, including programming intelligent lighting fixtures, ETC Ethernet lighting control systems, and DMX equipment and accessories. Expert knowledge of theatrical rigging systems specifically ETC Prodigy hoists and Foundation programmable rigging controller. Ability to plan and manage multiple tasks, projects and demands. Ability to meet immovable deadlines. Ability and comfort with working at heights on a variety of ladders and AWPs. Ability and desire to work with undergraduate students. Preferred: Knowledge of emerging technologies employed in theatre production including but not limited to 3-D modeling, 3-D printing, and CNC controlled fabrication (routers, milling machines, laser cutters, plasma cutters, etc.). Expert knowledge of and practical experience with welding and metal fabrication. Expert knowledge of sound design, computerized sound control and execution. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Required: Must possess a valid Texas Driver?s License and have a good driving history. May not have more than two moving violations in a three-year period. Preferred: ETCP- Entertainment Electrician. ETCP- Theatre Rigger. OTHER REQUIREMENTS All jobs require a current Criminal Background Check (CBC). Use of personal vehicle to pick up materials, supplies and equipment. This is a salaried position.
